Social media is a vital part of your marketing mix, and as we head into 2016, there’s never been a better time to supercharge your digital strategy.
Whatever your sector and whoever you’re keen to connect with, there’s an effective way to use social media to make that initial connection in order to get your foot in the door of your ideal client, supplier or general contact.
So, to help you achieve just that, here are our top three tips for making business connections that work for you through social media. These are things that we practice day in day out for clients, and that we use ourselves, so it’s on the very best tried and tested advice here!
- Up your social media game – Okay, let’s start with the basics. Do you have a presence on all of the social media channels where you think your ideal connections may be? Make sure your graphics are up to date, your profiles are complete, links to your website work, and that you’ve got content going out regularly. If you can’t say yes to all of the above, fix it. Stop reading here and come back when it’s done. All fixed? Excellent – let’s get going…
- Content is always king – It’s quite 2015, but the phrase ‘content is king’ isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, because it’s still true. Your business is judged on the types of content that you share online, so mixing up your self-promotional sales messages with other content that your target audience will find interesting is key. That could be fun, popular culture content if you’re a lifestyle brand or hard-hitting industry news if you’re in a more traditional sector, but make sure you’re sharing articles from other authoritative sources online to boost your social media marketing kudos. Never share content from competitors though, you don’t want to be sending your potential connections their way instead!
- Reach out – Yes, the hard truth about social media marketing is that for maximum impact you need to be social! Don’t be afraid to comment on posts, connect with existing contacts online, retweet and share, and generally, get stuck in. It’s all about engaging here, so think about what you can bring to the table. There’s easy ways to gain great quality engagement too – perhaps offer to answer questions on your sector via social media during a set timeslot each week? Give a little bit of expert advice away for free and you’ll reap the rewards. More product based? Running a competition for your product always works wonders and gets people talking and sharing.
